City Council approves updated area redevelopment plan and bylaw for Riverlands

An updated Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) and land use bylaw for the Riverlands neighbourhood in Red Deer’s downtown was approved by City Council today. The downtown riverfront neighbourhood will be a revitalized mixed use area with three distinct districts.

“Over past few months, we’ve worked to reduce the building height to a level that doesn’t compromise the overall viability and sustainability of the development but acknowledges those concerns we heard from residents,” said Tara Lodewyk, Director of Planning Services. “Incorporating the components of the Greater Downtown Action Plan, 2011 Riverlands Area Structure Plan, Culture Vision and Riverlands Urban Design Concept is critical and this bylaw and ARP will be our roadmap as we move forward.”
